Both Kelley and Shields had extensive construction experience before starting their own business, and, as a result, each developed strong ideas about forming their custom home-building partnership in 1985. They agreed one or the other of them would always be responsible for every single phase of the building process. Shields takes care of the design and permitting process, site development, and supervision of foundations, framing, siding, and decks.
